In this category, we collect historical postcards of the Bremer Dampfschifffahrts-Gesellschaft Neptun (Bremen Steamship Company Neptune), also known as “Neptun Line”, with their logo showing the typical yellow and blue striped chimneys.
Since 1873, when the company was founded, it had been operating scheduled passenger line services to Germany’s Baltic Sea ports, Amsterdam, and Rotterdam, and transporting freight to Belgium and Portugal.
People who collect historical postcards will immediately recognize the motorboat D.G. Neptun, which was launched under the name Gauss in 1925.
More vessels, for the most part bearing names of ancient Greek and Roman gods, such as the Zeus (1940), the Plutos (1905, 1925, 1957), the Jupiters (1872, 1901), and the Perseuses (1910, 1957), are shown on historical postcards.
After Norddeutscher Lloyd had become the majority shareholder, the Hamburg shipping company Rob. M. Sloman took over Neptun Line and the freight fleet in 1974.
