Deutsch Australische Dampfschifffahrts G., known by the acronym DADG, existed from 1888 to 1926 and was at times Germany’s largest shipping company with its fleet of 51 steamships of which especially the steamships “Essen”, “Magdeburg”, “Stolberg”, and “Hobert” are often illustrated on postcards.
Scheduled operations, connecting Hamburg to Australia, went on until 1915 despite competition from Norddeutscher Lloyd. By taking over Kosmos Linie, they offered even operations to the American Westcoast.
Due to the merger with Hapag in 1926, DADG’s old postcards are much sought among those who collect historical postcards.
